Quite a number of people focusing on Harmonium, also have interests for Piano building. We all know how many harmonium builders also built pianos.
I made a short trip of only a few days to Stuttgart and Wendlingen to celebrate 300 years of building musical instruments started by Balthasar Schiedmayer. We also celebrated the 200th birthday of Franz Liszt, with a strong (documented) connection to the Schiedmayer company and last but not least the 125th birthday of the Celesta invented in Paris by the Mustel Company (Victor Mustel).

On the Saturday I enjoyed a Summer day at the historic core of Stuttgart and I visited the Musical Instruments Collection of Baden-Württemberg.
The moment you enter the Museum, the first you see - just behind the very nice hostess, is a Concert Grand Piano with an extremely rare design.
Bronze, brass, lapis lazuli, mother of Pearl, ivory and various precious varieties of wood, all as inlay work into the case of the Piano.

It is allowed to make pictures, as long as no flash is used and neither a tripod. Not really the best environment to make pictures.
Nevertheless, I managed to make some acceptable photos, and I like to share these with all of you.

The explanatory text is available in Dutch, English and German, and soon an French translation will be added too.
Have a look and enjoy!

Citation :

I ment this text to be translated in French :-

"The Concert Grand Piano of the Schiedmayer piano factory was built for the Paris World Exhibition in 1900. There the instrument was shown as part of a music room.

The designs for the intarsia (inlay work) come from Robert Knorr, and were created by using bronze, brass, lapis lazuli, mother of Pearl, ivory and various precious varieties of wood, all of them delivered by the Stuttgart-based company G. Wölfel.

The wing Concert Grand Piano was purchased in 1901 directly from the company Schiedmayer Pianofortefabrik, by the Landesgewerbemuseum (National Museum) and came with the other holdings of the Landesmuseum in 1968 at the Landesmuseum (Musikinstrumenten Sammlung of Baden-Württemberg.

The instrument has seven octaves and a third (a2-c5 / AAA-c5); It has a double repetition mechanism with double escapement and upper damping.

The two pedals are of the classic style: shift and attenuation. The serial number on the frame is 31 342; the number of the soundboard 15392."

If you make a nice translation, I will vote to make you president of France :-)
